The Nemocón Salt Mine and Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral Tour is a fascinating experience that allows you to discover two of Colombia’s most impressive underground wonders. The tour begins with a visit to the Nemocón Salt Mine, an emblematic site in salt mining where you’ll discover tunnels, salt formations, and a history rich in tradition. Afterwards, we head to the famous Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral, an incredible underground architectural complex carved from salt rock, considered one of Colombia’s primary marvels.
The tour in each mine lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, including explanations and time for photos.
Both sites are accessible, but the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá has some stairs. It is recommended to inquire about the access options before the tour.
The mines have cool temperatures, around 12-14°C, so it is advisable to bring some warm clothing.
The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá was inaugurated in 1995 and is considered one of the seven wonders of Colombia for its underground architecture and the art carved in salt.
In Nemocón, in addition to the mine, you can see one of the oldest salt formations in Colombia, which has over 400 years of history.
The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá was originally an improvised chapel in the mine, and over time it became a symbol of engineering and religious devotion in the country.
